Treskavec Monastery is located some 10 kilometers from Prilep, just below the top of Zlatovrv where there is amazing view to Pelagonija, Pelister, Babu, Prilep city and surrounding villages. Zlatovrv is at altitude of about 1,300 and in the summer periods attracts lightning and terrible storms. From there, the name Treskavec(lightning) is taken, place where the lightning hits.

Although there is a direct path with car to the monastery, the true challenge is to hike to the monastery. The 4 hour hiking around is full with beautiful sights created by mother nature - forms shaped by erosion. If one looked better in each of them will find a piece that resembles a human being or something of the fauna.

The monastery was built in 12/13 century and has a rich history over the centuries. It was demolished several times and the changes that took place after makes it very unique to look at. Within the monastery there is the church of
St. Mary Mother of God with frescas from the 14th and 15th century.  Every year on August 28, believers are gathering in honor of the feast of St. Bogoridica. But that is not the only day when the monastery is visited, tourists often come to stay for several days, spending them in peace and enjoying the beauty of the area.

Treskavec must be visited and experienced. There you can learn a lot about its history, hear the story of a dove with one wing, see stone table made in the Byzantine period, look at the stone slabs that were found in excavations, see rock 'lion keeper” and certainly to rest and fill the batteries with energy.
